Phasing out Zinc White?

“I read a report from a manufacturer about using zinc white causing problems in oil paintings, and they are phasing out the usage of it. Any thoughts about it?”

Indeed we have after much consideration decided to err on the side of caution and cease making it. It has also been removed from our mixed colours such as brilliant pink. For more information please feel free to contact us.

  1. If you are phasing out zinc white what alternative can you recommend that will give the transparency of zinc?

    • Although not as transparent Cremnitz White is a good alternative – It did once contain Zinc but this has been phased out.

  2. I’ve been unable to find your beautiful Cobalt Teal Blue Shade -516 from the New Color insert in your handmade color chart.
Dick Blick doesn’t seem to carry 516 and I was wondering If you could refer me to a dealer who carries it.
    Thank You,
    Walter

    • Hi Walter,

      Thanks for your message.

I am afraid that the CTBS is not available in the USA just yet… Unfortunately, the Virus has caused some delays but it will be available very soon!

Our UK Stockists do carry this colour – If you cannot wait then I would recommend ordering a tube from them.

      Best wishes,

      Joelle

  3. Any alternative to the Zinc white pleaser?

    • We are reformulating with Titanium White. This is our alternative for now but we are working on to hopefully replace this long term

      • I have an almost full 60ml tube of your Zinc White. I bought it mid 2019 I think. I use small amounts of it to soften glazes for flesh tones. I’m reluctant to throw it away. What pitfalls and problems should I look out for if I continue to use it please? Or do I have to bin it?

  4. Hi, I’ve recently created an entire body of work using the phthalo blue and zinc white (a beautiful paint). I now feel slightly sick having just come across the recent discontinuation. Not sure what you can say to reassure me but hopefully there is something?!

    • We discontinued as an extra caution. Your works I am sure will be fine
