Based in Brighton, Jessica Oliver has just completed her MAFA at Brighton University. She works from landscape and natural environment in both paint and sculpture. Recently returned from living and painting in New Zealand, she also is the curator of charity exhibition series From the Studio Floor. Her primary focus is representing space and the internal exploration of the natural elemental world. Having studied classical painting in Florence, Italy, and after pursuing a degree in Fine Art Painting at City and Guilds of London Art School, she exhibits regularly in Brighton, London and Cambridge.
” When painting from landscape my intent is to represent the light, impact, immersion and energy experienced in nature. The viewer’s exploration of atmosphere and the visual and visceral surface of the paintings is my main focus, using abstraction to re-invent an experience of natural space and landscape.”
Winning ‘One to Watch’ FBA Futures 2015 at Mall Galleries, and Curator of national group exhibition series ‘From the Studio Floor’ – Jessica’s new work is inspired by Neo-Romantic traditions of nature and the sublime. Currently she is working with a combination of drawing and painting gesture to experiment with how bodily mark-making can convey emotion and an authentic representation of energy and space.
